“What does ‘doing hard things’ look like?”
Here’s some notes from the morning session of the Rebelution conference in Minneapolis, MN on June 21, 2008, Alex and Brett Harris:1. Fight sin. Right is often hard and wrong is often easy! Get serious about trampling sin in your life.
2. Battle discouragement and complacency, both. We get discouraged when we focus on what we can’t do. But complacency results from sitting back and looking at all we’ve done. Strength is acheived through exertion, not natural giftedness. The naturally gifted, impressive person often gets complacent. Remember that God’s standard is “Be holy as I AM holy”, so we should never get the feeling that “we’ve arrived.” It is important to GROW, not compare ourselves with others.
3. Do more than is required. Build up strength to succeed by exerting yourself.
4. Get over the fear of failure. Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly at first, but then trying repeatedly. Turn to God, and learn from your past mistakes.
5. Doing hard things looks different for each person.
6. Do small hard things.
7. Doing hard things is your best life-it is how we obey God, and that’s not always easy.
